The Prefect System at St Bees
At St Bees, we believe that leadership is best learned through experience. Our Prefect system gives students the chance to take on meaningful responsibilities, develop their confidence, and contribute to the life of the school. Prefects are chosen not only for their academic strengths but also for their character, commitment, and willingness to serve as role models for their peers.
Each prefect has a specific role that allows them to make a real impact - whether that’s supporting boarding life, championing wellbeing, leading events, or amplifying the student voice. Together, the Prefect team represents the very best of St Bees: inclusive, ambitious and forward-thinking. They are trusted leaders who shape the culture of our school and ensure every student feels supported, valued, and inspired.
Prefect Team 2025
Head Student – Phillipe
Leads the prefect team, represents the student voice, and sets a positive example across St Bees. Approachable, responsible, and inspiring, Phillipe is always ready to support others and make a difference in school life.
Deputy Head Student (Partnerships) – Charlotte
Builds connections that open doors for St Bees. She strengthens global links, alumni ties, and stakeholder partnerships while driving exciting initiatives like fundraising for our school charity.
Deputy Head Student (Student Voice) – Misha
Chairs the Student Council and ensures every student feels included. Oversees the buddy system, helps prefects in each year group, and ensures student perspectives are heard.
Boarding Prefect – Sonya
Supports boarders by making life in school houses safe, welcoming, and fun. She leads the Boarding Council and organises activities that bring the boarding community together.
Health & Well-being Prefect – Summer
Promotes happiness, health, and good nutrition at St Bees. Works with our Chef Manager on menus, runs the Food Committee, and serves as a Wellbeing Ambassador and Year 7 mentor.
Events Prefect – Asia
Keeps school life lively and memorable by organising events from House Karaoke to the Prom. A source of fun and energy, Asia also mentors Year 8.
Sports Prefect – Bowen
Encourages fair play, teamwork, and fun in sport. Helps with fixtures, facilities, and results, while mentoring Year 11 and championing active living for all.
Academic Prefect – Jackson
Supports learning across the school by encouraging achievement, sharing study tips, and promoting peer support. A mentor for Year 10, Jackson fosters a positive academic culture.
Environment Prefect – Amelia
Leads initiatives to make St Bees greener and more sustainable. Works on the Food Waste Strategy and inspires eco-friendly habits, while supporting the Pre-A Level group.
Marketing Prefect – Emily
Celebrates St Bees life by sharing news, events, and updates through school displays, the website, and social media. She mentors Year 9 while showcasing the vibrancy of our community.
Other Leadership Opportunities
At St Bees, we believe that leadership starts with opportunity. From the Student Council to Language Ambassadors, Sports Captains and House Captains, we actively encourage every student to step forward, take initiative and make a difference. Student leadership helps young people develop key skills such as confidence, communication, problem-solving, teamwork and resilience - qualities that will serve them for life.
