Wainwright Walk - 18th September 2022

Our first Wainwright Club of the year took place on 18th September 2022.

Having been delayed somewhat by the need to rescue a Jackdaw from the Science Lab office, we set off for the fells. Getting there past the traffic alongside Wast Water was a challenge in itself so we started at least 30 minutes later than we had hoped.

Despite occasional showers, 15 intrepid St Beghians (some walking in the wilderness for the first time ever) kept going for almost 7 hours and 20km of walking over Illgill Head, Whin Rigg and Irton Fell before turning tail and heading up the Miterdale Valley via Burnmoor Tarn and down to Wasdale Head.

All were weary by the time of our return and some will be a little bit stiff, but the Bank Holiday ensured Monday was a day of rest.

Thanks to Mr Hewitson, Mr Gribble and Mr Silk for accompanying.
